Four years after The Armed Man, another centenary year. This time we were marking the end of the first World War, and we once again invited singers from our European twin towns to join us in this performance. Thirteen visitors from Murrhardt were able to travel to Frome, where they were accommodated by members of the choir and other local residents involved in the twinning association.
However our best-laid plans and careful rehearsals were thwarted by a heavy snowfall on the night before the concert, meaning that soloists and orchestra (and many of the choir in outlying villages) were unable to reach Frome. At the last minute we switched venues to Christ Church and organised an in formal ‘sing through’. We were grateful to some wonderful singers who rose to the occasion as impromptu soloists and the concert turned into a hugely successful and enjoyable event. True to the spirit of the occasion, choir members brought cakes – and choir and audience (and the Mayor) all celebrated the snowy occasion, and the presence of our German friends, with tea!
